Hire a data engineer in Germany

A data engineer builds and runs the pipelines that move data from your apps and tools into a warehouse or lake, on time and in a shape people can use. Teams in Germany often keep data in EU cloud regions, on Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, or Databricks, with SAP as a common source.

Germany runs on Central European Time, with summer time from spring to autumn. A data engineer in Germany shares the full working day with most of Europe, most of it with the UK, and the late afternoon with the US East Coast.

• Employee through your German entity. You run payroll with social contributions and issue a contract under German employment law, including notice periods.

• Self-employed contractor. If the person works like an employee, with one client, set hours, and day-to-day direction, the arrangement can count as false self-employment (Scheinselbständigkeit). A status check with the Deutsche Rentenversicherung settles the question.

If your company has a works council (Betriebsrat) in Germany, it has a say in systems that can monitor employee performance. Involve it early when a data project uses employee data.

Personal data in Germany falls under the GDPR (DSGVO) and the Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG), overseen by the data protection authorities of each state. Many German customers expect their data to stay in EU regions.
